A body mass index (BMI) of 20-25 is considered normal, 25-30 overweight, and 30-40 obese. Individuals with a BMI over 40 are considered morbidly obese. You may be a candidate for bariatric surgery if you are 50 pounds of more overweight.

Dr. Stephen Sudderth partners with each of our patients to develop a treatment plan tailored to each patient's individual needs, focusing on weight loss and reducing the health risks associated with excess weight. Whether a patient wants to lose several hundred pounds or just a few, our comprehensive approach will help all of our patients to establish long-term goals to avoid endless cycles of yo-yo weight loss and weight gain. Dr. Sudderth’s partnership with each patient to combat the chronic illness of obesity begins with the patient and ultimately perpetuates into the household. Because of his personal stake in each patient’s success, his efforts can be far reaching beyond the patient. “Obesity is something that we must address from every facet of the family dynamic. Yes, this is an issue for the individual patient but we have to change the environment where that patient lives and eats, in order to breed success and make a lasting lifestyle change,” said Sudderth. “I look at the big picture and I expect my patients to do their part, so that together we can achieve a healthier approach for their weight loss and goal achievements.”
